i'm brewing today and have a shiny new chillout mk 3 i'm using for the first time. i am going to run/flish it through with boiling water first before the brew, but should i then run some iodophor through it while it waits til the end of the boil? i don't have any starsan so that isn't an option.

just wasn't sure about the chemical composition of iodophor with the plate chiller etc etc.

any tips would be great! thanks :)

Iodophor goes inert , after a few minutes...
Been using it in my kegs and through my plate chiller for years, without any problem...
Make sure after your done using it , that you soak your plate chiller in some pbw or do as I do and run pbw through it , in reverse of your brew day flow , for at least 30 min and then recirc clean water through ..you want to make sure you get rid of any hop debri that can be deft behind...
I always make sure that when I am about to use it ( like 10 mins before) that its full of iodopher...I then tip it out and connect my silicon hoses...
You will also get cold break into your fermentor..can't be helped..but by adjusting your flow , you can get wort right down to pitching temps , no problem..
Next you'll want a stainless t piece and a dial thermo on the plate chiller out ;-)
Cheers

thanks heaps mate

If you have a pump, it is nice, sanitation wise, to just recirculate the boiling wort through the plate chiller before you start putting cold water in the other end for chilling.

How'd you go , bloke ?
sorry mate, didn't see this until now. went really well. did as you said and got my brew down to 28C on the first run through. i'll be tweaking the flow today and should hopefully get it down to about 23-24 which is great. my fermenter fridge should be able to do the rest pretty fast after pitching. :)

Good news !
..with a ball valve on the out of your pump , you can get the wort down even further..I got mine down to 21 the other day...took about 40 min to get 30 odd litres down...
Cheers

nice one. i'm apartment brewing so it's basically trying to squeeze lots of brewing equipment into a very small area. i don't think i could get a pump working for me. i'm sure i could if i really really wanted to but i'm pretty happy with that. i'll let you know how i go today with a tweak of the flow :)
