Hi All,

Well, I got the wheat beer down yesterday but this morning to my horror I discovered the brew had foamed through the air lock overnight and there was no sterilising agent in it at all this morning.

I cleaned the lid up, got a new air lock ready and replaced the empty one.

My question is .... what chance is there that the beer will get infected ??

For the record, the yeast was WLP300.

Secondly, is there anyway of discovering whether infection has occurred prior to bottling or is it a case of bottling and hoping for the best ??

Thanks
JFF

Dont worry, have a homebrew :)

Its common for wheats and stouts to creep out of the fermenter. Nothing to worry about at all. You wouldnt have a bad infection while the fermentation is that active.

Thanks kook. Glad to hear that .... looking forward to seeing how my first wheat turns out.

JFF: Think of it this way. All the motion, of the gasses being released and the foam it is carrying, is out of the airlock. Hence it would be really hard for anything to go against this large flow and actually flow into the fermenter.

I wouldnt stress about it, have a homebrew instead.
