Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into
the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service.
"Wet your whistle" is the phrase inspired by this practice.

A man came home, kissed his wife who was vacuuming, sat down in his favourite chair and flicked the television on.

"Quick darling, get me a beer before it starts," he called out. His wife get his beer, which he proceeds to finish quite quickly.

"Darling, could you get me another beer before it starts?" he enquired. A little peeved, his wife fetches him another beer, which he again proceeds to finish quickly.

"Quick dear, another beer before it starts," he asks. This time his wife blows her top. She starts screaming about slaving away in the house all day then watching him come home, flop his fat arse on the couch and demand service.

He rolls his eyes and replies, "It's started."
