Hi,

About to bottle my pacific ale and I have some 500ml swingtop bottles. I am currently using sugar drops. Do you think one drop be ok for a pacific ale in a 500ml bottle.

Thanks.

it will be a little low but better than two which will over carb

Thanks Barls

just tried to half a drop and its easier than I thought,

1.5 drops?
Yes or no?

I find that 1.5 is a bit to much - wont cause a bottle bomb or a gusher, but it will be be just a bit too carbed.

I agree with the bulk priming if you can.

1.5 will be ok. If you don't want to bulk prime, Google "pseudo bulk priming". Gives you the advantage of bulk priming without having to transfer to bottling bucket. The diff between a stout & a saison in terms of carbonation is huge, difficult to do with carb drops

I've only used drops a few times cause I like the pseudo bulk prime, but I've used 1 drop in 500ml bottles before and thought it was perfect. I even told a bloke not long ago to try 1 drop in a few 750ml bottles and see what he thought compared to using 2 drops. He liked the 1 drop bottles better.

don't have anything to bulk prime into at this stage, but its something I will do soon.

Thanks for all the advice.

I've used 1/2 to 2/3 a drop per 330ml bottle, 1 drop per 500ml will be fine.

Use digital scales a funnel teaspoon and lid its easy and cheaper then carbonation drops .

Don't need a funnel, just use a folded piece of paper. You are never going to get good consistent results with carbonation drops. If you are not going to bulk prime then weighing out sugar or dextrose is a good option. You can buy a 0-200 gram balance for about $10 which you will need later for hops etc.

Coopers prime at the rate of 5gm per1ltr, so that should give you a guide as to where to start

Bulk primming is the dogs bolloxs.o much easier and consistant

That pseudo bulk priming looks like the ducks nuts, definitely gonna give it a go...

Cheaper, more consistent, more control, and just as easy as carbonation drops! I found that the carbonation drops would stick together, then bits would break off of some and stay stuck to others.

You're lucky - 1 drop in a 330 or 375ml is over-carbed. 1 drop in 500ml is perfect.
Check ianh's spreadsheet: the ratio typically recommended for carb drops results in over-carbing.
