Hi fellow BrewDudes,

I am wanting to brew a hoegaarden type beer and I have noticed only two things that I think can get me there. Was hoping to get a few opinions directions on the two below kits. Has anyone used these kits, one or both, if both then which did u think was better...
I am a kit brewer & i dont mind doing a few fancy things here and there to the brew, but not an AG brewer .....(.....yet......)

Anyway.....share your beery knowledge/goodness with me.........

ESB 3kg hoegaarden style kit (makes 18litres) $35.50 AUD {scroll down the list a bit}

Hoegaarden is a goal that even very experienced brewers might not get very close to. You might make an excellent wit though, but be prepared for it being a little darker using extract (wits are extraordinarily light in colour due to unmalted wheat).

WB06 will get you some weizen-ish esters, but not get you close to Hoegaarden. Even the Wyeast 3944 or Whitelabs WLP400 will not get the exact aroma, but it will at least be a genuine witbier. Try wits by Feral Brewing or Wicked Elf, they are more like what you will achieve with these yeasts.

Someone else might chime in on getting closer to Hoegaarden.

Regardless, this is not to say that you can't brew freakin' great beer... that is a given.

ED: and brewing the beers you have suggested will probably be absolutely fine. I would do the ESB kit + WLP400 from Dave. If you are trying to clone a beer, I would not weigh economics heavily into the equation, the quest might get expensive.
