Have a bit of a issue with fermentation , put xtract Irish Stout down on 18th April with a reading of 1040 after 10 days it is only 1020. fairly constant 20 degrees throughout this period. Any suggestions ie like leave for longer would this help.

Was it really well mixed before you pitched the yeast?
The syrup can stratify in the bottom of the fermenter and its real hard for the yeast to chew into it.
Had this happen when I used a kit in my fermentasaurus ended up with thick dark at the bottom and had to get in and stir it all up. Don't stir it though ( yet ) if you are really sure that it was very well mixed.
How long has the gravity reading been 1020?

What are you using to measure gravity
