I'm looking at one of these bunnings storage barrels for bulk grain storage. I'm aware it won't hold a full sack but it should get most of it and it's a convenient size for my storage area, which is limited on space.

Anyone know how much it will hold? From memory it's about 2:1 for malt (litres:kg), so should get about 18kg?
Anyone have any experience with these particular barrels?

I use one but just use it for putting small bags of grain in, the thread is not so good and there is no seal. If you have space, and would be better off for keeping moisture out of the grain is the 30 litre fermenter type one $18 so a bit cheaper, the 35 litre is $21 but you may have to add GST,
I am sure someone was advertising one free and didn't get a response.

Thanks WEAL. The 30L fermenters are too tall for the cupboard I want to store it in. Might have to find another place for it. I did give one away last year without even thinking they'd be good for grain storage.
I get what you mean about the threads. I went to bunnings to look at them and managed to get a lid stuck on while looking at them :O. It's a shame they don't come with a seal, there even looks like there is a nice groove in the lid where a seal should go. But I guess you can't expect too much for your $25... or from bunnings...

I use the 35 L from Bunnings to store 2x 10 kg bags of Barrett Burston pale (aka pilsner) malt. 18 kg is pretty spot on as to what it can hold. I always make a well in the top of the grain and put a DampRid canister in. Pretty satisfied.

I use those Bunnings 35L's.

I can fit:
19kg of Barley malt. Maybe up to 21 if you can jiggle compact it.
23kg of wheat malt. Smaller denser kernels apparently.
16 kg of mixed ground malt.

The handle/lid design kinda sucks but I haven't found a better option for the price.
