Hello homebrewers!

A big thanks to Dane at AHB to let us into the forum to say hello, and let you all know about Good Beer Week 2012, and which events are aimed specifically at homebrewers. Firstly, there are many other events that are well worth attending throughout the week as well. In total, we have 100 events around Melbourne & regional Victoria dedicated to good beer... If you'd like to check out the website & the online program head to to Good Beer Week online program.
Now, down to the events that are dedicated/aimed at homebrewers:

1) First up is the "Brewing essentials homebrewing course" offered by Costanzo Brewing Consultants, and held at the Kooinda brewery in Heidelberg on Saturday 12th May.

"This short one day course is suitable for homebrewers wanting to brew better beer on a consistent basis.

It is run by an experienced commercial brewer and scientist who has over 25 years brewing experience.

This course will appeal to homebrewers, those wanting to get into home brewing and even retail suppliers of beer wanting some background into handling and storing beer correctly."

2) Second is The Masterbrew Home Brewing Course, also by Costanzo Brewing Consultants, and again at the Kooinda Brewery, this time on Sunday 13th May.

"Fancy taking your brewing to the next level?

This four day course that runs from May 13 to 16 is suitable for the serious all-grain homebrewer and follows the one day Essentials Brewing course.

It involves coursework, brewing at the Kooinda Brewery and visiting other microbreweries such as Mountain Goat or Matilda Bay."

3) Third, is the event "Homebrewer to Probrewer" at the Great Britain Hotel in Richmond on Monday the 14th May. Awesome prizes, awesome beer & food, and awesome value at only $25.

"The future of craft beer is in the hands of the home brewers!

Boatrocker Brewing Company, in conjunction with the Great Britain Hotel in Richmond, are proud to present seven Gold Medal winning beers of the Australian International Beer Awards, from home brewers who turned pro-brewer. In the mix are Mountain Goat, Feral, Holgate, 4 Pines, 2 Brothers and Boatrocker, plus special guest Eric Ottaway from Brooklyn Brewery.

$25 gets you seven x 170ml tasters of each Gold Medal winning beer, a chance to chat to the brewers, food from the Mexican grill, and entry into an awesome raffle (prize packs from each brewery, a $100 voucher from Grain and Grape, and a 25kg sack of Crisp malt)."

4) Fourth is "The Pitch" at the Courthouse Hotel in North Melbourne on Tuesday the 15th May.

"The Stone & Wood team have joined forces with Scott Thomas at The Courthouse to provide a flavour filled night of fun. As part of Stone & Woods exciting new side project, The Mash Collective, they are searching for an amateur brewer to be part of a joint effort in their brewhouse. Amateur brewers will have the chance to pitch their beer and the idea behind it to the Mash Collective. Guests on the night will be able to participate by tasting each of the beers and submitting their votes.

Of course a night at The Courthouse is not complete without experiencing great food and beer, and guests will be treated to the full range of Stone & Wood beers matched to some of the great produce from their Northern Rivers homeland."

5) At number 5, perhaps the most impressive event of the entire week... The Good Beer Week Masterclass of Champions on Tuesday 15th May.... For those who love nothing but the best, and want to learn from the best, then this is the event for you! We've lined up the Australian International Beer Awards Grand Champions from 2010 (Nogne-O) & 2011 (Moylan's) to do a collaborative brew especially for this event... Only 1000 litres will ever be made, and only a few litres of that brew will make it into bottles... On top of watching these champions brew this beer, you'll be transported from Fed Square via bus to Hargreaves Hill Brewery in Lilydale, where you'll be treated to beers from all three breweries, be able to talk to the brewers during the brewday to discuss this brew and their other brews, sample different stages of wort production, and much more brew related stuff... Now all this will make you hungry & thirsty... So, we've lined up some chefs from some of the best restaurants in Melbourne to put on a feast of incredible proportions... All matched to 3 beers from each of the three breweries... And to top it off, you will also receive a 750ml bottle of the incredibly limited brew when it is ready... WOW!

"Good Beer Week is delighted to announce the inaugural Masterclass of Champions. This truly unique Good Beer Week experience will see Ngne ؒs Kjetil Jikiun and Moylans founder Brendan Moylan and his head brewer Denise Jones come together for an up close and personal masterclass as they create a one-off beer especially for Good Beer Week.
The breweries are the 2010 and 2011 Australian International Beer Awards champions so its a great honour to be welcoming them both to Melbourne for Good Beer Week. They will be hosted by Yarra Valley brewery Hargreaves Hill for the brew and there is room for just 30 people to be there on the day for a masterclass, brew day and beer degustation rolled into one.
Learn all about the breweries, the brewers and their beers, and experience and sample this unique beer as it is brewed. Then enjoy an exquisite three-course degustation with each course paired with beers from each of the three breweries, with the menu, service and ambience created by The 36 Collective, a Melbourne group that puts together one-off events such as The Gypsy & The Goat brewery degustation featuring Mikkeller and Mountain Goat, using chefs and staff from the city's very best restaurants.
Good Beer Week will provide transport to and from the event from Melbourne and will supply all guests with bottles of the beer once its ready to roll. It promises to be an intimate, one of a kind experience youll never forget in the company of true champions of the beer world.

Tickets available now!"

6) And last but not least is the Brewshare event at the Taphouse in St. Kilda on Saturday the 19th May.

"Join very Special Guest, Kjetil Jikiun from Norways famous Ngne , as homebrew enthusiasts gather to share, enjoy and discuss their beers and showcase their passion and skills. Known as an outstanding homebrewer before he became a world-class professional brewer, Kjetil will be part of a Q & Ale session before judging the best homebrew brewed for the event.

Homebrewers are asked to brew five litres of a porter and ticket price includes finger food. Email [email protected] to find out the nominated beer style.

Presented with the Australian National Homebrewing Conference (ANHC) and leading homebrew store, Grain and Grape."

I know that was a lot read, but thanks for being patient! We hope you will be able to make it along to these events, and if not maybe some of the 90 or so other events that we've put together!

Cheers!

Brewshare event/details

I had not seen details about the 'Good Beer Week Masterclass of Champions' before, sounds like it will be really good, except for those who are a bit financially challenged, like myself. :(

The grand prize for the BrewShare during Good Beer Week is a ticket to the 2012 ANHC! May the best Porter win!
