Hey Guys

Anyone know if the fumes coming off the boiling wort are particularly bad for you? I'm just doing my brews in the house and there are lovely smells coming from the vapours off the pot ...

Some of the old copper boilers I see pictures of have domes /chimneys coming off them .. were they to serve any particular purpose or advantage? Do modern breweries have regs. regarding removal of boil off vapours?

You'll be fine. I've not heard yet of any home brew induced deaths... maybe from over consumption though..

Cheers pnorkle, I agree.

After a bit of reading I think the hoods on the commercial ones are mainly for heat efficiency and to redirect steam and nasties (stop them and other things dripping back into the wort) and also for WHS/regulation reasons. Many of the hoods have a condensation units to liquify the vapour and re-direct them out of the way.
