Just about to transfer a half batch of American Amber onto 2 kg of bananas - Has anyone any idea how much of an increase in alcohol i should expect from the secondary ferment?...

cheers & beers...

Ross

About 2 kg of bananas worth, mate ;)

Mrs GLs food counter program says 1 kg of bananas contains 200 g carbohydrates of which 170 g are sugars.

Looks like between 170 gm & 204gms per kilo - thanks guys... :D

Ross -
What sort of recipe is this? Any links to this style of beer, and what it tastes like?
I'd be really keen to hear how it turns out.

Mongo, this one's from my own twisted mind - Can't blame anyone else if it's undrinkable... Also had my first AG misfortune :( - Poured approx 5L of the first runnings down the drain (kettle tap still open from the mornings batch). So had to make some last minute efficiency/hop/boil adjustments to try & keep in balance...

No, but she will be on tap, taste permitting  - splitting the batch & only bananarising half...

Bring it on! You have to call it Bananaramber!

sounds great!
what do you do to them before you put them in?
(peeled is taken for granted :) )

Mate, Didn't you read my signature :D ...

++++

Tangent, I'm just peeling & freezing for a couple of days - Never done any sort of fruit beer before, so virgin territory - but had a banana beer at the GBBF & thought it was awesome & love the flavour in a Wiezen, so nothing ventured...nothing gained :D

Needless to say Ross you'll be calling the beer "Banana Split"

i threw a banana into the last 5 min of boil
was too weak though

really interested in hearing how your beer comes out Ross!

Sounds really interesting, hope it all goes well!

Chuck a post on after you've tried the first one so I know you didn't die um, I mean see if it tastes all right :p

Bananas... I'm by no means an experienced fruit brewer but I have my doubts about the likelihood of success when brewing with banana. No backing in logic or science, it just doesn't seem like a fruit that would transfer well to beer. It's a vibe thing.

I'm very curious to hear how it turns out though, Ross.

Probably not one I'd have gone with, but as I mentioned, drank it in the UK & it was lovely... Was a standard bitter, but I think the American amber will balance even better... Here's hoping anyway...
