Thanks to Raven i have 2 functioning ebay 'tempmates' controlling the fermentation fridges and 2 fridgemates on the keg fridge and conditioning fridge. :super:

So the Jaycar temp controller pictured below is now surplus to requirements.

It was given to me by a fellow brewer (BenH) so its only fair i pass it on for nix to a fellow brewer.

Would prefer someone local so i don't have to post it.

It doesn't have a digital readout so it takes a bit of trial and error to work out where a certain temp is on the dial - i used a thermometer in a flask of water/sanitiser to calibrate it. Great to get you started and all for $0.

Hello Doc,

Apologies for being off topic (and I have a Tempmate) but I write to
ask about your Golden Ale recipe that I got from the folk at BeerBelly
(was going to PM you but then thought others might be interested in
this too).

I'm not into grain brewing yet so I have been making the Can version
of the recipe (to very pleasing results) and was wondering what other
hops you think could be used instead of Amarillo and still achieve the
same result.

I might look at growing my own hops this coming spring and I'm
assuming it might not be possible to get Amarillo rhizomes.

Regards,
Tom.

 can't give away a temp controller without someone asking you about your golden ale!

Tom - start out with amarillo, then try some other american hops - centennial would be a good one to try in the same recipe, as well as citra.

Cheers
Phil

PM sent and no, amarillo rhizomes are under lock and key in the states but plenty of others that work well in the golden ale. Fresh, home-grown chinook for one.

It's yours!

Oops! Hope I haven't made a faux pas.

Thank you for the timely tip, Doc, I'll try it with Chinook at some stage - my next
try at the recipe will be with Coopers Real Ale can instead of the Thomas Coopers
Selection Sparkling Ale and seeing how it turns out.

Regards,
Tom.
