I use some Briess grain which is good quality. Not used the extract but I like the fact that you can get more specific extract (eg munich) rather than generic dark or light.

That price is OK. If you look at places like Grain and Grape, you will find that their price for 1kg is much lower per 100g than their small bags (comparable to that ebay seller) and if you look further at places like ellerslie hops or overseas like Niko or hopsdirect you will see bulk prices much lower (for future reference).

I only buy small 80g bags when I want to try something new. Once I know I like a hop, I tend to buy 500g lots from ellerslie or one of the others mentioned above.

Make sure the ebay seller is selling you fresh, well stored hops and see if you can get a certificate of analysis (you should be able to).

*Ellerslie hop website is down ATM.

I have used Briess extract in Kits and bits and an all extract brew as Manticle states there is a bit of variety available. I can't honestly say I have noticed any great difference between Briess and the normal light malt except the light colour. Just bottled an APA last few days so nothing to report yet waiting for the yeast to drop out.

P.S. take me a lifetime to go through 1kg hops.

In 1 kg packs $55 is a lot.
You will find plenty of reputable sellers selling 250gm or 454gm packs for less per kg

I usually go to gain and grape the 80 gram packs are $10 and the 1kg packs are $75 i thought $55 for 1 kg on Ebay was pretty good what are the stores that sell 250 grams and how much are they ?

the Briess DME G&G has in now i use for starters and besides the difference of colour (its a pilsner malt extract) i notice how much break material forms and settles i the erlenmeyer flask. it coagulates and flocks better than the previous G&G DME.

454 grams seems like an odd amount who selling that and at what price?

90x5 = 450.

CB definitely does that lot size.

had a look at CB 450 grams of cascade for $42.50 looks like Ebay $55 for 1kg is still better value

Can get 5 pounds of Cascade for that.

To be honest, I've stopped buying hops in large amounts. I just end up with a freezer full of old hops. Rather pay slightly more for variety. I still buy noble hops in bulk though for lagers. 1kg of Saaz doesn't last long; 1 pound of Citra (14%AA) lasted me 3 years.

Yeah those prices are good, but you have to think about the cost of international shipping along with the long times they may take to get to Australia and you can never guarantee what the conditions are during travel. Me personally i'll take fresh hops that i can get in a couple days already here in the country and start brewing sooner rather than later. From what i saw on those cascade hops for the price they seem to be great value, better than the brew shops i have dealt with so far, just would be nice to see a list of the other hops and prices that guy has.

I was just looking at a site in Britain earlier today that had 5kg of Goldings cones for &45.
Does that & look like a pounds sign? :lol:
