For lager starters, I think I might prepare the first 3 steps in advance using DME, and then the big 4-5L step with the same wort it's intended for.

I just need a formula to calculate how much wort to collect.

Ie. Wort is 1.054 and I want 5L at 1.035.

So Just using arbitary figured I woukd take 3L and dilute to 5L and end up with X.

Cheers Mark! I searched, but I did not find! Brewmate can do it in reverse, but I prefer to understand the math (where it's within my ability to understand).

By the way, are your glass thermometers in stick again yet?

Using c1v1=c2v2 how do I apply it in this scenario where v1 is unknown, but v2 is known?

(the linked example was the other way around)
