Can you use any kind of flour mill for grain or does it have to be adjustable in a certain kind of way.

I've found a old style mill that looks like an old meat mincer but isn't one and I was wondering if it would work.
 
Sounds like a porket/corona flour mill. Does it have two discs (one rotating) which the grain is crushed between? Have a look around on the net for a few pictures to see if it's the same. If so a lot of people are using these mill and report good success.

i use the porkett mill with no problems,
i get an efficency of 70+% (which i'm pretty happy with)

for other than a small amount of specialty grain you need to check the spacing two-three times during a crush, don't produce too much flour

The Marga(sp) mill with its 3 rollers gives an excellent crush, run the grain though once at coarse setting, once again at a finer setting. Takes a while but is good as a cheap maltmill. In Adelaide try Gaganis Bros or Globe imports
