Hey guys, I'm going to be making my first BIAB where the recipe I'm using is not one i have found online but completely my own. I'm still very new to this so i was wondering if anyone could have a look at this recipe and tell me how to improve it or what may be wrong with it. I will be making a 10l Batch and am aiming to make some sort of nut brown ale.

Grain bill is a bit complicated.

You also have a lot of light crystal in there, which is a bit out of place. Pretty sure caramalt is the same as Crystal 30??? Meaning you have 20% of a crystal malt that arguably shouldnt be there in the first place. Light crystal is very sweet, especially in those volumes.

Personally I would get rid of those 2 additions and replace with MO as a first step. I would also increase the bitterness a bit from early additions and cut one of those 25 min additions.

2c.

I'd look at reducing total crystal to around 5-10%. A good quality UK crystal like simpsons or Thomas Fawcett to get the colour you want.

I'm not experienced with amber malt but it looks, at first glance to be a tad high as it's a malt that needs surplus diastatic power from base malt as far as I understand.

Don't take my word for it though - research recommended amounts before tweaking your recipe. Victory malt I do often use and again 15% might be a touch high. A little goes a long way.

Thanks for some great feedback, I,ve made some adjustments and im happy to keep changing it until i get something that sounds right.

How does this look
