About to tip my first brew down the sink. Not sure where it went wrong but it had a horrible taste before I bottled it. I thought it might mellow out but it is definitely undrinkable. Leaves a hole in my beginning brewer supply. Time for a good soak and clean and try my first lager.

some details e.g
what was it
what yeast
what temp did you ferment at

It was a brew I've done a few times. I did two at the same time just with different yeast. Thomas cooper sparkling ale can, 1 kg ultra brew, 2x 200 gr grains, POR hop pellets. One with us-05 and the other with a Ringwood ale liquid yeast. Both fermented at 20degrees in a temp controlled fridge. The U.S.-05 turned out ok, the Ringwood ale not so good. I'm not sure how to describe the smell and taste. Perhaps a really bitter and rubbery taste. No floaters, gushers or anything like that. Nothing funky in the fermentor. I can only put it down to cleaning.

Ringwood ale is known for diacetyl, perhaps that's what you're tasting? If you didn't leave it in the fermenter long after it was finished there's a good chance you might be tasting diacetyl. Does it have a sugary, caramel-like taste and is totally devoid of any hops? The head is incredibly bitter?

Rubbery doesn't sound retreivable
It will help you if you can describe the flavour as clearly as possible, remember it if you ever come across it again and attribute it a possible cause. Read some of the descriptions for common off flavours and causes.
