I was freaking out the other day because the recently purchased stick on thermometer on my fermenter looked like it was pushing 24C even submerged in cool water with a wet towel around it. I got the thermocouple out and fired it up -only 21.3C.Phew what a relief- My advice Don't Trust the Stick on thermometer
