im looking to buy a false bottom for my 80litre pot but everywhere I look theyre to small. my pot is 480mm wide.
Some have bought perforated stainles and made their own.Kingy said:im looking to buy a false bottom for my 80litre pot but everywhere I look theyre to small. my pot is 480mm wide.
Yea i made a copper manifold a few years ago with hacksaw Slits on the underside it worked a treat until the esky retired and took the manifold with it and i went back to biab. That keg king falsie you linked is what im after thx mate.dicko said:Some have bought perforated stainles and made their own.
I had a large esky when I upsized my 3v system and I made a manifold to fit into the bottom of it and to get it "right" I followed John Palmers recommendations in "How to Brew"
Years later I upgraded the esky to a stainles vessel with a 12 inch false bottom which was purchased through my LHBS and I actually dropped 5% efficiency when compared to the manifold set up.
Many of the older brewers still use a manifold as they work very well and if you wind the clock back 12 years or so false bottoms were not readily available unles wanting to import.
The manifold I made had cuts in it with a hack saw but if I made another one today I would take the time to drill holes into the pipe with a size of apprx 2mm.
If you do make one have all the slots or holes at the bottom of the pipes otherwise you will have a large mash tun dead space.
Good luck Kingy
I had toyed with that idea before its a great idea but i have way to many projects happening at the moment i just gotta buy one lolQldKev said:This is my setup in a 100L mash tun. Basically a 50L keg bottom, with cuts using a 1.0mm angle grinder cut off wheel. No stuck mashes and 85% pre-boil eff. I also use it for other hobbies and it gets a pounding with a drill paint mixer. I love it.
I have a bigger (400mm) Keg King one that I had to shave a few mm off to get into my tun. They're a bit thinner stainless than some others, but plenty strong enough and the price is right.Kingy said:Thanks for the offer booargy but im keen on the keg king one now, i need another pump head from them anyway as i stripped mine a few days ago. Temperamental little *******s, wish theyd hurry up with the stainless head for them pumps i need 2 now lol. i should stop stripping em down for a clean.
How did you trim it down mate my pot is 480mm and they have a 400 and a 500mm. Wish my pot was a little larger. A 450mm falsie would be perfect.shoobs said:I have a bigger (400mm) Keg King one that I had to shave a few mm off to get into my tun. Found the centre hole, put a compass in it and drew out a circle the right diameter. Then just cut along the marking with an angle grinder and cutoff disk. Followed up with a wire brush disk to deburr. Pretty easy - less than half an hour all up.Kingy said:How did you trim it down mate my pot is 480mm and they have a 400 and a 500mm. Yes 40mm would not be a problem.....probably no gain in cutting the larger one to gain that distance.MastersBrewery said:If you look at QldKevs pic above the falsie is well away from the sides I think you'd find the 400mm job would work just fine.
