just wondering when im doing a kit, and i use a different yeast then the kit one, what should i do with the spare?

I always try to keep one yeast sachet on hand as an emergency spare. Otherwise dead yeast cells are a great source of nutrient for putting in yeast starters. Just boil the sachet in water for about 10 minutes to kill the yeasties, then add to your starter.

Keep it! Throw it in with your next brew when you boil and use it as a nutrient. The boiling will kill it and rupture the cells, thus releasing the contents for use by the yeast that you pitch.

Yup, but the bursting (lysing) of the cells requires a 30 min boil.

Your boil will smell yeasty for a while but that goes away
