Hello all,

Well, this afternoon I submitted an Application for a Chef to work on Mine Sites, and within 5 minutes I had a call from the Company asking to meet up for a Interview due to my Qualifications.. :D

And since Im going to be in Toowoomba over the weekend and the Company is based in Toowoomba, I have lined up a Interview on Monday morning... (lucky im hitting the homebrews on Friday night)...

Anyhow, does anyone have any advice, hints or tips for Working in this Industry????

CB :icon_cheers:

Heading Back to Toowoomba hey CB. Mines will soon be getting big out here supplying cut lunches to them hey?

Oh, and sorry, I always post :icon_offtopic: stuff in the wrong section...

My son is an electrician who has done a fair bit of contract installation in mines in WA and SA (currently in the gas fields). Mines are exceptionally strong on policies such OH&S, anti sexism/racism, anti harassment etc as well as alcohol and drug testing when working. Hope this helps a bit.
All the best, Barry.

Come all you young fellers, so young and so fine
And seek not your fortunes way down in the mine
It will form like a habit and seep in your soul
'Til the stream of your blood flows as black as the coal

It's dark as a dungeon and damp as the dew
Where the dangers are double and the pleasures are few
Where the rain never falls and the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mines

There is many a man I have seen in my day
Who lived just to labor his whole life away
Like the fiend with his dope and the drunkard his wine
A man will have lust for the lure of the mine

It's dark as a dungeon and damp as the dew
Where the dangers are double and the pleasures are few
Where the rain never falls and the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mines

I hope when I'm dead and the ages shall roll
That my body will blacken and turn into coal
I will look from the door of my heavenly home
And pity the miner a' diggin' my bones

I blame the mines for the price of beer in WA <_<

...are they looking for brewers out that way yet?

If they're interviewing you, as long as you don't come across as a complete tard, you're probably in.
As mentioned, they'll talk up the OH&S side of it pretty big. If you can relate to this in some sort of fashion it could help.

Yes, but he won`t be going underground, you see
He`ll be in the Messhall, making sandwhiches and tea.
Just one week the previous chef lasted,
He went on a jag, and poisoned 150 poor bastards :(

stagga.

That is why always be good to the cook....

Cheers for the Tips guys..

I'm not a tard at all(only when drinking) but if someone rings you within 15 minutes of an application and like your Qualifications, its gotta be a sure thing... And the Job has to be ok too for me to take it....

No underground work for me, dont like getting very dirty...

Here's your steak tartare, would you care for some coal dust with that?

Just be yourself.

Use the motto: If it can't be done safely, then we find another way that is safe - or we don't do that job.

You will most likely be asked "If you see somone doing something unsafe - what would you do?" - have an answer for this.

Expect to be drug tested & blow in the bag.

Presentation is a big thing, we don't want to employ slobs.

good luck with the job cb, hope you're thick skinned mate ;)

Well, I had my Interview on Monday at 10am and at 1050am I was offered a Job and accepted... :D

Pretty good really, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off and more money than my Pitiful Job now..

Should be starting Mid-January and have to have a Full Medical  , do a 4wd Course(paid for) and the normal Induction Stuff in a Big Company... Will more than likely only be Catering for 10 guys on these portable remote Camp Sites and yes, I will have to have 2 weeks off the Booze(not an issue and will be good for me)....

At least I will have way more time with the Family, to brew, brewdays and just other stuff I dont get time for anymore and the best thing is that I will be able to leave work at work and enjoy my time off... :beerbang:

Bring it on....

:icon_cheers: CB

Oh, and yes I am a Thick Skinned one(Chef)...

Congradulations CB. Good on ya.
Enjoy your new job.

Cheers,
bud

Congrats CB! Bloody happy for ya mate! So where will you be basing yourself now? God's waiting room Harvey Bay  ?
