I might be getting myself a little mixed up here, (regarding wiring) but is this sequence right; mains power in - switch - PID - element/pump?
 
where did you get the box, if you can show some pics/details etc.. someone maybe able to help

Your question itself may be causing people to shy away from answering, as it comes across a little obvious as-is... like, "do I fill my kettle with water and then turn it on". So I'm not sure how to answer it... Yes, you will need to supply power to the control panel. The element will need to be connected to power via a SSR and/or a mechanical relay depending on the function you need (a boil kettle may not need a PID controlled power source for example). Pumps are not controlled by the PID, but would need their own switch.
