Does efficiency effect maltyness or colour?

Hi guys,

I have been AG'n for about 6 months, hit the ground running with an efficiency of 85%, and held it steady.

My question is, does this high efficiency mean i am getting less colour and malt taste than someone with bad(er) efficiency?

My reasoning: there is less grain to get the colour and malty from, even though i am getting plenty of sugar out.

I asked the same question a while back as I noticed the colour in my brew software changes when you change the efficiency.

For a higher efficiency, given the same OG, yes the colour will be lighter as you are usingmless grain to achieve the same OG. The colour extracted from grain is basically constant no matter what you do (other than maillard reactions in the boil).

As for maltiness, I dont know, however Id assume for a given OG and grain bill, you will achieve the same maltiness given different efficiencies.

Im just trying to scope if i need to boost some of the spec malts to get some more maltyness.

What style are you brewing and what is your current grain bill?

at this point its just a general question, not in relation to any particular recipe

Thanks man, it is good, but i ended up with some doozies as a result.
first brew, grain bill with an estimated 70%... ended up with a 7% summer ale
i have since dialed my software in and getting 85% (+-3%) which i am quite happy with.
