Anyobody ever experienced dead packet yeast?

I normally se liquids now, but due to the delays in getting the WL cider yeast, i put down a ginger beer yesterday with the included packet yeast.

Bloody thing hasn't done a thing in over 24 hours, so i pitched in a packet of S33 Saf yeast (curious what this does to the flavour).

I have never had a completely DOA yeast. I have had some packs which I suspect were not as fresh as they could have been.

My experience with ginger beer (homemade recipe) is that it ferments quite slowly. Did you rehydrate the yeast?

Yeah i did. I've made this same kit twice before, and it normally goes off like a frog in a sock, karausen at least normally appears in a couple of hours.

Since i've pitched the Safale, i've already had krausen appear, so i'm sure the old yeast was cactus.
