have done a bit of trawling through some threads, however was wondering if anyone could tell me of experience switching a concealed element crown urn via an SSR for temp control?

is it going to burn out due to the switching rate or am I being over cautious?

Yep works great. I got a 40L crown concealed element urn running off a $4 SSR I got off ebay. Works perfectly attached to a STC-1000 and ss temp probe.

Electric elements are a purely resistive load, so no problems with rapid on/off switching.

The only problem I've had was with a 25A SSR (ebay cheapie) that overheated while running about 13A through it for an extended period (about an hour). The result was that it failed to switch and continued to deliver power even when the controller was switching the SSR off. Or course, I didn't have a heat sink on the SSR, but that is being rectified.
