Howdy,

Scored this today for FREE off FB Marketplace, dude thought it had something to do with welding/soldering!
Picked it up and bugger me it's full! Flipped it on it's side and seen the Cottee's stamp.
After a quick google noticed that there is not much info and most of it is off here.
Looks like someone has already tweaked it.
I know nothing about it so any comments and the good, bad and ugly will be muchly appreciated.

CHEERS.

What you have there is an Australian made Post Mix Keg, sadly a pretty worked over one.
Looks like someone has turned it into a strayer tank or something like that, so what's inside wont be Cottee's and could be anything from petrol to DDT...
To get it back into working order you would need 2 Posts (either pin or ball lock) a new PRV and a service kit to replace all the seals. Hopefully the dip-tube is still in there. The parts are still made by Turret catalogue attached.
In good working order depending on size (they were made from 9-23L that one might be 23L) they are worth $50-125 depending.
Problem is the cost of parts will probably use up most of that and it's still going to be very secondhand looking.

BTW, they were made by a few companies, Myton Rod, Rheem, STPV (still making them) they were badged for whoever was buying them, so you will see the same kegs with Coke, Pepsi, Schweppes, ICEE.... and a bunch more, If you are looking for more information search for Australian post mix kegs, not Cottee's. You will run into bunches of information on American style kegs, very different, the Oz ones have male 1/2" BSP threads, the US have female threads on the posts.

I think you payed the right price, odd on its one you should park until you find some spare parts hopefully secondhand from a keg that is leaking, your keg and their parts might add up to one keg at the right price.

That is awesome Mark thanks for the detailed reply, exactly what I was after.
Could this be under pressure at all and how would I test and release it if it was?

Thanks again.

Unlikely, the valve is in the open position so all the pressure should be gone.
Lift the round bar leaver on the hatch, odd on the rubber O-Ring under the hatch has melted and stuck to both the hatch (I think the technical term is a "Bale") try to push the hatch down (might take some persuasion), turn the hatch 90 degrees and pull it out. Should get you inside.

I find Jiff and a pot scrubber brings the outside up pretty well (with a lot of rubbing).

Tipped the keg over and a trickle come out so yes opened the hatch.
Full of what looks like a batch of Stout, very strong but good smell!
Unscrewed everything and all bits were full of crap.
Hosed everything down and it came up nice just by doing that.
Says on the side…

You can get Taylor seal kits here from Grain and Grape. Also new Taylor gas/liquid posts and safety valve but it would be cheaper to buy a new corny keg.
