I recently did the Tsar's Tar Baltic Porter recipe from Coopers. It's based on the Baltic style Porter - Zywiec Porter from Poland ($25 a 6-pack at Dans if you wanna try it).

It used:

• 1.7kg Coopers European Lager Brew Can
• 2 x 1.5kg Thomas Coopers Amber Malt Extract
• 1kg Coopers Dextrose
• 300g Chocolate Malt grains (overnight cold steep in fridge)
• 2 x 11.5g Fermentis W-34/70

• Colour: Brown/Black (EBC 58)
• Body: Heavy
• Bitterness: Medium (IBU 21)
• Approx. Alcohol Level: 9.4% ABV

Left it for 3 weeks in the brew fridge at 13C. Bottled it on the weekend and had the usual sips along the way. It tasted great - great chocolate flavours and nice depth & balance. Just need to give it 4 weeks to develop the carbonation before I can try again. Will hopefully be able to leave a few for winter in front of a fire.

So if you are a porter lover this ones for you.

Cheers,

Tried a bottle 2 weeks after bottling, and though the carbonation needs more time, it's not a bad brew. Very chocolatey. I did add the boiled steeping liquid from a 30mins steep of Belgium Special B, Shepherds Delight and CaraRed to the brew to give it an extra kick of sweetness, fruitiness and colour. So far so good.
