Once I have worked out the approximate percentage of my home brew, how would I be able to work out how many standard drinks in, say, a 330mL stubbie?
 
Well a std drink is a can of mid strength 375ml @ 3.5% I think.

So # drinks = %alc/3.5 * (bottle size/375)

Do you really care though?
 
hi dave good question have wondered the same myself on occasions so here is how i do this .

i was cheeky and went to the bottl shop and had a look at the % /vol on the 330 ml bottels and then checked the standard drinks per that bottel and then if i know my percentage of my brew i just used that .

say a 330 ml at 4.9%=1.7 sd and i made an ale that was say 4.9% and i botteled in a 330 ml bottel then this would equte similar but then there are the variables for example the priming sugar if used .
as you say there must be a formular.

is there a reason you need this info or is it just for the information ?

Well, it's a matter of something that would be interesting to know. jasonY- I'll have a look at your formula, seems like it's right...
 
I'm not sure where I got it from but found this formula a few months ago and it seems to be accurate.

Standard drinks = Alcohol % * Volume in litres * 0.79

Suck it and see

Just doing some research...

Coopers Pale Ale: 4.5%, 375ml, 1.3 std drinks - Stuster ratio: 0.77
Little Creatures Pale Ale: 5.2%, 330ml, 1.4 std drinks - Stuster ratio: 0.82
James Squire IPA : 5.6%, 345ml, 1.6 std drinks - Stuster ratio: 0.83

Results inconclusive.

Not quite sure how you are working those out CBL

4.5*0.375*0.79=1.3

How did you get 0.77?

Stuster's calculation looks the goods. Using your examples:

CPA: 4.5x0.375x0.79=1.333 SD
LCPA: 5.2x0.33x0.79=1.356SD
JSIPA: 5.6x0.345x0.79=1.526SD

The authorities obviously round UP.

Of course, it doesn't seem like the most reliable source now I think of it, but seems to work so ... :p

To show off, I'll give the example with some Orval I bought this morning. (Thanks for the tip Duff.)
6.2%*0.330l*0.79=1.6 standard drinks which is what the label says. Now all I have to do is drink it. :chug:
