Do you have a noise suppressor on the coil? (assuming its an old old Holden)
why would he want to do that he already has one heap. at least he doesn't have to push it.

id rather have nether
the super cars lost so many fans when they went to a two horse race. me included.
personally there are better manufacturers out there than those two.

Seems a noise suppressor is the go. Dunno how to " like" posts on the new setup, not that the Holden bashing is to be liked...your terrible Muriel.

So how old is the car

Is there at least some part of an aerial on the car some where

Does it happen on AM & FM

Is it only scratchy when driving

Do you know how far away the radio station transmitter is

I ask this because I spent 18yrs working on on specialised radio equipment....so I can possibly help

Check joins of antenna cable, or just replace it being easy to run in a old car, remember it has an inner and outer core.

Or is something creating a magnetic field around the cable or head unit causing the static?

Only scratchy when driving on both AM& FM. Holden HJ, gotta be a dodgy connection somewhere the antenna is after market, the rubberised type but seems to be in good nick and well mounted .
The transmitters are 3 km (ABC) and 45 km away being commercial ,I'm now leaning towards a poor earth connection being scratchy when driving ?

Check and clean all connections. Does the static vary with engine speed? If so it could be the capacitor on the alternator has failed. HJ? Nice. 202 and 3 on the tree?

If it has only just started I would be looking else were, coil or plug lead crack

Ah ha, good point Camo as the sometimes the ignition fails when starting .
Narrowing the problem down thanks all.

Noice

Could be many things.

If it is having trouble starting then look at the ignition

Alternators can cause issues as well.

Does the static/scratchy vary with engin speed..?.. If so then look at the engine

It coulds even be a dodgy speaker wire connection as well
