Preparing my yeast starter as I have always done, I boil 2lt of 1030 for 15 min in a 3lt Erlenmeyer flask then turn it down to stop the boil and add the stir bar boil for another 10 min.
This time when I added the stir bar about a liter of the starter instantly erupted out of the flask.
Lesson learnt. 1-Turn of the gas let it sit for a minute or 2.
2- Point the flask AWAY FROM ME!
3- add stir bar.

I just add the stir bar at the beginning, before it boils. ;)

Now!
That's how I do it now as the safe way. After experiencing flash boil eruptions etc.
Face it. Every home scientist whatever inevitably experiences these things. Most times can be laughed about but respect that it could be bad. So prevention is the best or learn the hard way. Adding the stir bar in the start can be the nucleus? (Second had information etc) The point that bubbles near boil, and the trigger for flash bubbling that is more controlled.
Versus the cold stir bar dropped in at flashable boil temps will flash boil!
