With all the hours of work i am doing at the moment swmbo and i have decided to build a family home instead of buying an already established home close to the inlaws.

Apart from the obvious things like extra power circuits (10A & 15A) for elements and fridges, and a rainwater tank with cooling coil installed, what can you innovative homebrewer types :rolleyes: think of to make a new home more "brewer friendly"?

big big big water heating to supply HLT water.

Install drainage in brew shed that drains to some sort of underground compost system or a big bin with drainage. Means you can just flush the grain away :)

put in a path between shed and house that lets you pull a trolley loaded with a fermenter between house and shed - in case you need to move a heavy load without rocking it too much.

If you are going to be brewing in a room in the house, extra wide doors for that + sufficient access to it from outside.

Exhaust system for brew shed/room.

Dig a cellar for bottle storage.

Outdoor power supplies of course.
Pergola or similar with sturdy beams for hoist etc.
designate an area where the kegerator, bar pool table goes.
The cellar is a good idea.. back of the garage.
 
Dedicated bar room, with two cool rooms behind it. One at fermenting temps and one at serving temps. Taps mounted to wall. Imagine having the ability to have almost unlimited beers on tap. Just drill a new hole whenever you want to add a tap!
 
A couple of big sinks for cleaning.

Congrats on moving away from the outlaws.

I am also building a house and one of the first things located on the block is the new shed. Brewery, fermenting and cold rooms are all in sandwich panel and the floors are epoxy coated with floor drains. Needless to say enough power for everything (my brewery uses 4 @ 4800w and 1 3600w elements) and enough cleaning space.

install a commercial gas instantaneous HWS - eliminating the HLT ;-)

Edit: Get a python installed from the brewery area to the kitchen so you can have a tap or two by the sink ;)
 
For brewing indoors:
- big sink
- floor drain (with sloped floor)
- waterproof walls (tile is best but expensive and a pain to install, but galvanised roofing panels are easy to install and very cheap)
- extraction fan
- gas hookup

For brewing outdoors:
- hot water via tap or hose
- gas hookup

General:
- consider a walk-in cold room (doesn't have to be very big) for fermenting or keeping your kegs cool
- design floor plan so that the cold room shares a wall with your man cave to minimise beer line run
- it's better and cheaper to plumb/wire things now rather than leave something out and then end up regretting it later
- lots of light; you can't have enough light, particularly once you hit 40 (personal experience) :rolleyes:

about 100L capacity but usualy brew about 60L. 2 elements are in HLT and 2 in kettle but the control system only alows 40A consumption total.
