Hi all, I'm chasing some advice, ideas and recipes - all extract, with maybe some partial grain steeping.

What I'm trying to achieve is a mild alcohol brown session ale which is low in bitterness and a slightly sweet malty caramel flavour. Can you recommend anything? I'm partial to JSGA but looking for something packing a little less punch and more sessionable for a hotter climate.

I'm leaning towards trying the mangrove jacks session brown ale pouch. It sounds spot on. Anyone tried this or have done something similar?

Cheers.

Maybe a lighter version of an American Brown Ale? I originally used the Coopers Ol' Brown Dog recipe and played with it.

Maybe grab IanH's spreadsheet and play with it. I just played with IanH's spreadsheet and got rid of the LDME, which took it down to about 4.7% If you also dropped the Dark Ale back to 1.5kg it would bring it to around 4.5%.

Cheers,
Pete

Golden ale packs a punch? First I heard of it...

This one uses similar hops to JSGA I think. Just an idea, never tried it.

A bit unfair quoting a recipe with choc chit or are you offering to donate some from your personal stash??

none left unfortunately.

When I say JSGA packs a punch I mean for my session buddies who are use to commercial mega swill. I could drink JSGA all night. The climate up here (darwin) is hot and we tend to drink a lot of thirst quenching lagers and a lot of them. Which given the climate are harder to brew, though I do have a keezer with temp control. I'm aiming for a reasonable well balanced session ale, though I want a bit of the craft beer influence if that makes sense. When I say brown I don't necessarily mean brown brown but a beer in the golden e.g. JSGA range to something like an London brown ale. Low in bitterness and slightly sweet caramel like

Hey Riquez83

I recently brewed the Mangrove Jack Session Ale - Albeit I did a partial mash with 1kg of pale ale grain and 300 grams of light dried malt extract. I had been told the pouch came out quite bitter so I opted not to add any hops to the boil. I dry hopped with 25 grams of Ek Goldings though. Really good, I am not huge on kit beers as I haven't brewed one in a long time but I must admit this hit the spot. Easy drinking and the partial mash takes the edge off the kit beer taste. I wouldn't take it over a well brewed all grain beer but for a quick easy week night brew done on the stove it was pretty good. Ill more than likely do it again and have it on rotation on my taps.
