I'll be in Melbourne this weekend, so can anyone recommend any good brewpubs I could check out? I will be staying in Spencer St, so something in walking distance or a quick tram ride would be good :)

Cheers - Snow.

Hey Snow,

Funny You should ask.... I just got this email today...

LAST OPEN NIGHT...
Yep this Fri 6 August will be the last brewery open night at Crown St. Shes been a good boat but we need a bigger one. So drop in for the Hightail, Pale and Surefoot Stout on tap from 6pm. Pizzas out the front as usual. So what happens next? Well we shut down the plant in about 3 weeks time and start moving everything over the road to North Street. Weve got liquor licences processing so will let you know when you can come and visit us. Were building a bar in the new place and plan to do more stuff like regular tours, beer appreciation sessions etc etc. Check out www.goatbeer.com.au for building progress and pics.

See you Fri eve

Damn I don't get there until Saturday! That would have been great to go to. Thanks for the heads-up, anyway Hopeye.

Snow,
There is the 2 JS pubs in the city. One is down that end but i cant remember the address. Reception will be able to point you in the right direction.
Also Try the Bells brewpub in Sth Melb. That will be just a short tram ride down Spencer ST, over the bridge past the casino. Cant remember which corner you get of but from there just turn left and its one or 2 blocks down. Not too hard to find from where you are sstaying.

Also try the European beer cafe in Russell St (lots of Belgian beers), Arnoux in Little Collins, Sherlock Holmes (not sure of the address but they have the 3 Ravens brews which are supposed to be OK) and the Gunn Island brewpub in Middle Park. How long are you downfor again? :D

Um....one night, before we head to Falls Creek to find out how deep all that snow really is :D . I should be able to cover all those pubs in one night.....if I ditch the wife and kids

Snow,
I really recommend Bells in Sth Melb if you are pushed for time. They make their own beer there and its excellent. Last i was there the stout was awesome.

cheers
