I have four slants of brewlab yeast english that i bought in the bulk buy a while back stored in fridge around 3c ,, The best before date is feb 2011, am i dreaming or would it be possible to do anything with these ,, If i did get a starter going would it be okay or possible problems ?? ,, Or should i just bin them

Thanks
bernie

Slants should still be viable for 6 - 12 months, sometimes a bit longer (18 - 24 months) but as they get older, you might need to re culture (or plate them) to salvage enough yeast to build up. I have some that age that I'm streaking onto new agar and most (but not all) appear to be fine first-go.

Thanks for that Wolfy ,, I would be interested in giving it a go ,, were does one buy agar and the other equipment needed

I get agar-agar from Asian-supermarket type places, then you just need a few vials to put it all in.
