I've switched to kegs recently, but still need to bottle occasionally. My beer was a little under carbonated, but i wanted to get a bottle in for comp. So I've filled the bottle and then primed with a 1/3 tsp of sugar. Hoping the sugar will both up the carbonation to where it should be, and through that yeast activity, clean up the oxygen i would have got from transfer.

thoughts?

Don't see why this would not work if the comp is fairly soon. As you noted, oxidation is your issue, and the small amount of extra sugar probably won't clean it all up. It's OK in the short term.
