Find a supply of free champagne bottles and you avoid the problem. They can withstand a much higher pressure than beer bottles.

You will have to buy a new bell for your capper though, but they are cheap compared to losing an eye...........

I just use PET, is the feeling of glass worth the risk? The beer will taste just as good.
