Over the years my work has been blocking access to beer/brew/alcohol related sites which makes me think, "how long till they block me from this one"? :(

I've been able to hit the G&G site up until today which has really p#ssed me off cause it was one of the few remaining sites that provided me with important brewing information and supplies.

this sux b#lls.

Maybe it's time to get an internet connection at home and actually do work at work :p

we run into the same problems at school , cant get into hunting forum it has WEAPONRY

But we generally over come this by using an annonmous proxy server which is a webpage where you type in the URL that you wish to go to with the server page and it will get you onto anything at work or school

http://www.schoolboredom.com/ is one we used to use at school , then they banned it casue everyone was using it.

https://www.the-cloak.com/login.html another one i just searched up

All well and good, but user beware.....

Many workplaces take an extremely dim view of people bypassing their proxy servers.

A sackable offence where I work....

At least it seems like the admins at your work know what they are doing.

Not like the morons where I work. Every time they announce changes to the firewall they seem to stuff it up and block out a lot of legit sites needed for work.

Then it takes them weeks to fix the problem.

Mandraker is correct, one worker up here was put on his 'final warning' after bypassing the server only once, then an email was sent to all staff [local goverment, "no names no court martial"] to remind them it was an offence :( .

I was blocked once from this site....it pays to be mates with the IT guys...I gave him the web address, he did his magic and got me access again.
Cheers
Steve

Yeah plenty of fun blocked from here as well.

Fortunately this and League Unlimited are unblocked so far.

Give em time though!

Compared with colleagues who have been warned about on-line gambling, Ebay, rotten.com and Big Brother streaming, my daily dabble on AHB is entirely innocent.

Luckily, I'm the admin here, so access is no problem ;)

However, the problem for me is the perceived laziness that comes with browsing a brewing website (ignorant colleagues!!). So I use Firefox with an extension that hides the title on the tab I am using. I have my usual array of sites open (work related) and then a blank-looking tab (AHB). So when someone wanders into my office and stands over my shoulder, they have no idea what I'm looking at!

Cheers guys, I hope that's helpful for someone.

My work has blocked the usual mp3, music, porn etc but Ebay and AHB is still available. I suspect that most of the chiefs upstairs spend their spare time (what do public transport managers actually do all day?) browsing the internet themselves.

top idea bugwan, what's the name of that firefox extension?

Hi Goatherder, the extension is called Page Title Eraser and can also remove favicons (so the little beer glass goes too on this site...nice and innocent browsing!).

You can get the extension here: http://pte.mozdev.org/
Once installed, just right-click on any page you're wanting to hide the title of and select 'Hide Title'. Too easy!

That is pretty groovy Bugwan.

FYI, it also works in Mozilla 1.8/Flock.

Doc

One of my friends who studies computer science wrote a programme which made it look like they were looking up email, research, etc but they were really playing network worms!!
