We're all too drunk around these parts to read that noise.

Never understood how you can have a black pale ale.

Mate I did a black India ale a while ago, single hopped with mosaic just to give it a try and it was divine.....delicious

Not questioning the beer itself, sure it's lovely. It's the name that gets me...a "Black" India "Pale" ale.

Well it is black in colour only and tastes like an IPA. Hence the name Black IPA. Also similar is the Cascadian Dark Ale which is more roasty I believe. Try them. Being from NZ no doubt you can get your hands on Yeastie Boys PKB. :beerbang:

A rose by any other name would still be the worst style of beer ever.

You read people here saying the same thing about APAs from time to time. Anything darker than your average pilsner confuses some.

The word "pale" doesn't actually mean the beer should be pale though. I mean according to BJCP an American IPA can be anywhere from 6 - 15 SRM, and if you look at a chart, seems like anything over maybe 6 or 7 I wouldn't call "pale".

Honestly I wasn't overly sold on the black IPA concept either until I tried a Kooinda Black IPA the other day. Ended up drinking a half dozen they were so good. Now I'm brewing a clone over the weekend.

I like the idea of a Black IPA and am keen to try the Kooinda when I get a chance before I make my own batch.

Helles - I like that you have steeped a 100g of hops and think that will give it a nice aroma kick to the beer.

Can i just ask why the OG of 1045 was so low for an IPA style?

IPA - 1056 to 1075
ABV - 5.5% - 7.5%

Keeping og low as it will be easy drinking tap beer .
I don't make to many beers over 5% av so I don't get too drunk too quick
