I couldn't wait any longer. The verdict on my 1st new attempt at AG brewing, 11 Litres (15 or whatever it ended up being) to the Fermenter, Black Beer (pseudo–Tooheys Old) with cock ups on the day.

Delicious. I love it and I've already teased my old mate with a photo. I will have a few of these this evening for sure.
It is refreshing, a little malty, lots of roasty / toasty almost and a touch of sweetness, not flowery of overly hoppy and a nice bitter after-taste. Not chocolate but possibly some coffee notes. It is a little light on head retention which I will work on, but it has left bubbles sticking on the glass. Not tide rings but a good starting point. Maybe some Carapils or wheat.

On ya, livo.
I love my dark beers.
(I also love my lighter beers, but not as much)

Thanks philrob. I do like a dark beer for a change. This one is dark, but it isn't heavy. It will be interesting to see how the second batch using Chocolate instead of Carafa II and Black Malt turns out.
