Too lazy to read through the posts on this one for the answer that is probably there somewhere...

Has anybody used one of those Craftbrewer hop socks for BIAB? They are pretty big and seem strong enough.
 
You need your bag to line the pot, or you will have a very thick mash, even though you are mashing with your full volume. The material hopsocks are made of are not permeable enough to freely allow water to diffuse in your pot to compensate for this.

I've used the hop sock for steeping a couple of times, and I thought it might hold enough for a small batch. The point about the permeability is probably the key. They do have a tight weave, so that's going to cause a problem.
