Guests take a dip in beer pool

An Austrian holiday resort is offering guests the chance to swim in a pool containing 42,000 pints of beer.

The Starkenber Beer Myth resort located in and around the medieval castle of Starkenberger in Austria's Tyrol region has filled seven 13ft long pools with the beer.

The management claims that beer baths heal various skin diseases.

However, some guests are said to have enjoyed drinking their favourite brew while swimming in the pools.

Manager Markus Amann, 23, said: "I would rather swim than swallow, as we serve enough of a cold, fresh tapped beer on the bars next to the pools."

I can always remember a slogan at our local swimming pool when I was a kid....

"We don't swim in your toilet. So please don't piss in our pool!"

A good amendment for the beer bath would be...

"We don't swim in your toilet. So please don't piss in our piss!"

You beat me to it Warren. There was nothing better to warm up the pool water on a cold day :D . Good thing the beer in the pool isn't refrigerated or they'd be wearing wetsuits.

I'd be a bit more concerned if they filled the tun up with a lager and it ended up looking something like a double choc porter!

Just been reading some more about it.
They fill it fresh each time a new patron/customer wants a beer bath. You get it for the night for 135 Euro's.

Also found some more pics.

Here they are empty. Each one holds approx 20,000 litres

In the affluent first(western) world we bathe in beer.
Some where in the 3rd world people don't have enough clean water for drinking, let alone bathing :excl:

How lucky we are.

We are a lucky lot. Having said that, Western society is becoming decadent. We haven't learnt a thing from the fall of the Roman Empire & numerous civilisations since. :( We all will pay the price sooner or later. :(

Rant Mode is now turned off. :D

135 euros for a fresh tub of beer? I guess more than one has to pay for the tub. I wonder what the "beer" really is, the economics of this have got me, if it's real beer how do they make a profit?

well im sure VB wouldnt cost much more than that.

i wonder what hops they use?
any one have a clone recipe for AG?

Now you can bathe in beer (or wine) on the Mornington Peninsula too:
