Some time ago I purchased a nice Stainless Steel (430 grade) BBQ off eBay. Got a good price, and it's worked great, and continues to work great.

My problem is that as with all BBQ's some of the parts are starting to deteriorate.

The flame tamers were aluminimum so have basically rusted through and the enamel coated grill has scratched up and now started to rust.

I've managed to find a cast iron ceramic brick flame tamer which will fit, so that's not an issue.

My dilemma is that the grill is 465d x 380w which is not a standard.

I've looked into getting one custom made from 316 SS... Yeah that's not going to happen as the $$ were just stupid.

So my question is would I run into any issues cutting to size a pre-made cast iron grill? Are there any coatings I need to worry about after I cut it?
Or would I be better off cutting to size a pre-made SS grill?

sounds like it might be the same bbq as I have can you put up a pick or link to confirm? I have been looking for flame tamer for ages where did you get them from?

The best (and possibly cheapest) solution would be to purchase some of these:
http://www.grillgrate.com/

I have 2 which i use on my gasser, weber kettle and even take camping.

Once you have cooked with these, you wont go back.

Do you find you don't need flame tamers with the grillgrates?

It's the same as this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Euro-Grille-100-Stainless-Steel-BBQ-6-Burner-Outdoor-Barbeque-Gas-Kitchen-/140904695629?pt=AU_Outdoor_Living_BBQs_Cookware&hash=item20ce93074d

But a different label.

I'm going to use the cast iron 425x400 ceramic brick flame tamer (I think it's a gasmate) it should fit without falling onto the burners.

I've also found out that Bluetongue BBQs (http://bluetonguebbqs.com.au) also sell bbq's which use the same size of grills and and style of flame tamers as my original. Problem is they won't sell them to you unless you can prove you have a genuine "Bluetongue" bbq. (You're either on their database or send a photo of your BBQ with their logos)
Frankly I think Bluetongue BBQ's are doing themselves out of a reasonably large volume of replacement part business by not selling to people who want to buy from them.

I'm going to use the cast iron 425d x 400w ceramic brick flame tamer from Bunnings (I think it's a gasmate) it should fit without falling onto the burners. (Idea size for flame tamers are 435d x 380w)

Where did you ge them and how much? Is there a supplier in Aus?

You have to order directly from the US Website. Mine were hand carried back whilst i was in the US.

Off the top of my head i got 2 for $30 however i would recommend getting 3 to fit the BBQ.

No not at all.

I do put mine on the hotplate but use them on the weber kettle over charcoal without issues.

Just did the calcs.
Crap!
$70 for the grills bits which is pretty good.
Then $114 for postage!!! Might wait and see if anyone I know is heading to the US any time soon before I go down this route.
