Not having much experience in the competiton side of things, can you tell me the significance of the Bathurst comp? Is it the NSW comp? or just a big comp that a lot of people seem to enter? How does it rate against, say, the National Comp?

Cheers - Snow

The Bathurst comp is widely regarded as a well run and organised comp.
It is not the NSW comp.

It is really the only major comp held at this time of the year with the state and national comps held around Sept.

Beers,
Doc

It is well run

Entering a competition will give you feedback from experienced judge who does not know who's beer he is tasting. Your mates will always say your HB is great, a comp is a chance to find out how great, and how to make it better.

Bathurst is open to kit, extract and mash brews

The Bathurst comp was on Fri and Sat this week.
Did anyone go along for the judging/dinner and awards ceremony ?
Did anyone enter ?

Beers,
Doc

Doc is that you in for the strong ale?
I have tried the other darrens barley wine in the same cat, that was a wicked drop. if its the same one i had it was 100% pale malt.

oh and cascade.

jayse

Doc must be shy but iam sure thats his name at the bottom of the strong ale cat.
Also is andrew the same as the andrew we have here who's name appears a few times.

jayse

Hey- thats me in the Belgian wit category. Of the couple of bottles I entered I thought the wit was the worst. But I guess there would have been a lot more entries in my other categories. 87 doesnt sound very high. Forgive my ignorance, but what is the score out of?

Good work simon. i don't now the numbers but iam guessing 150.

jayse

Oh bigd will be bringing a present from me for you.

jayse

Well done Simon.
Yep that is me in the Strong Ale. It was my James Squire Australian Strong Ale clone.
The Andrew is the Andrew from this list AFAIK.
The scores are out of 150. 50 points max from three judges.

I believe the score sheets were being mailed Monday this week so you should have them any day now.

Beers,
Doc

Yeah guys, thats me 3rd in the dark ale for my brown porter (the one I posted a pic of a few weeks back) and I am rapped.
Good on you Doc and you too Simon.
Go the AHB brewers

Congrats to all the AHB boys. You've inspired me to have a stab next year, or maybe in the September round of comps if I'm ready. Again, well done,

Shawn.

Time to start filling out the club detail as "Aussie Home Brewer .Com" ?
