Just a quick question.

What would be the maximum batch size you would reccomend for a 30 lt fermenter. I've been doing the standard 23 lt batches but think I could probably go to 25 or 26 without erupting through the airlock.

Depends on your ingredients, particularly yeast choice.

I've brewed with the coopers yeasts when i was doing K&K and had quite small krausens sometimes, but other yeasts are just really bloody determined to get out and go for a walk.

I had a Raspberry lager that did that. All over the celling and walls. That was 26 litre in a 30 litre fermenter. Partner was pissed...
