Hi all,

Been playing around with a summer and galaxy doing a few blonde ale's using US-05 with some pretty good results.

Thinking of doing the same kind of beer style but with a lager yeast, lets say Danish Lager.

55L Batch

82% BOH Pilsner (Weyermann) or Pale Malt (Barrett Burston)
15% JW wheat
3% Caramel Pils (BestMälz)

Mash @ 66c
SG: 1.045 FG: 1.010

42.5g POR9.1% @ 80 - 20.0ibu
18g Summer7.8% @ 10 - 2.5ibu
18g Galaxy13.6% @ 10 - 4.5ibu
Total: 27ibu

Danish lager @ 11c then raised to 16c @ half way to FG.

How do you think it would go?

Rocki

Sounds like it'll be a nice sessionable. I'd be tempted to add either the Summer or the Gallaxy at flame out and some more for Gallaxy for dry hopping too but not really neccesary.

Curiously, what would make this a pilsner? Danish lager yeast + pils malt + crystal + aromatic hops = hoppy lager. I'm thinking it needs a pilsner yeast, less colour and some Saaz to put it in pils zone.

Styles aside it would probably go alright depending on your brewing skillz. 80mins PoR is probably too long in the boil, and in my opinion wouldn't be a great match with Summer. How does it go in an ale?

Hi again,

Cheers 4 ya input, yeh is pretty good as an ale, ale version used galaxy for bittering tho.

Made a few tweaks to make it more pilsnerish..

55L Batch

95% BOH Pilsner (Weyermann)

5% Caramel Pils (BestMälz)

Mash @ 65c
SG: 1.044 FG: 1.009

32.5g Galaxy13.6% @ 45 - 20.0ibu
12.5g Summer7.8% @ 15 - 2.5ibu
12.5g Saaz3.1% @ 15 - 1.0ibu
10g Galaxy13.6% @ 15 - 3.5ibu

Total: 27ibu

BOH Lager 2142 @ 11c then d-rest

? not sure bout adding f/o hops ?

? to add a little more colour, ditch the carapilz & add touch of med dark crystal or 3-5% munich ?
