After much waiting my Beerfest 2006 trophies turned up in the mail today.

2 lovly engraved glases.

one was smashed!!! :(

Thet were packaged in a foam container and taped up with "fragile" tape.

I have had this problem before with australia post. I sent a few beers to franko for doing a great job on my logo and they broke them in transit. They were well packaged with bubble wrap, and packed in with shreaded paper.

I have since found that they dont have a fragile service and that the word "fragile" on the package wont make any difference.

Aparently their recomendation is the packege should be able to withstand being dropped on the the ground from shoulder hight.

This istn apost knocking the packaging by beerfest officials, they did a good job but a warning to all people, brewers and comp organisers that if glass bottles, trophies or other fragile things are being sent by post they should really consider how they are packaged.

Thanks to beerfest for the great trophies. I will have to do a bit of reconstruction with some glue ;)

cheers

What a dissappointment Tony.
I wonder if the engraving has made them a bit more fragile ? Although if they couldn't get a beer to Franko without it breaking, probably not.

You'll have to move closer to the big smoke :p

Doc

:( that's sad to hear!

'Fragile' really only means 'don't throw it too far' at aussie post...

Those bastards
Tony I cant believe its happend again

Oh Tony!! That is a big Pi$$ off!

The services that we are entitled to (and pay for) are generally declining as we speak (type)
No one gives a $tuff any more and it is a shame.
The people that rely on freight (postal or otherwise) to the country areas are the ones that are the most inconvenienced.
I hope you may sort it out and congratulations for the trophies. :)

Cheers

thanks folks.

I wont be using aus post again for sending bottles to comps or friends.

they can shove their (drop from shoulder height) up their postal bums.

I recal a while back i had a fathers day pressie to send in a hurry and the line at the PO was out the door so i drove to a courier and they had it there on the door the next day for the same price and Aus post and they didnt break it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just hope others can help to stop these misshaps with some prior knowlege from this :)

cheers

Just as well they were not sent by "AIR MAIL" Tony..
Have to protect the stock from injuries.. :p
Congrats on 2nd place..anyway..
PJ ;)

A few years back, I got a pewter mug in the post (courier actually, IIRC) from the Bathurst comp, and I waited for my score sheets to arrive.

I'm still waiting. Lost in the post, if U can believe that. I doooo believe! Testify! Aussie post cannot be trusted with anything of value.

So, at least you received your trophies, if somewhat trashed.

Deepest sympathy on your loss. I empathise greatly.

Seth :(

Shoulder height?!?!

Who's shoulder? I'm 6'3 ish so shoulder height is a long way for a package to fall.

Wouldn't matter how well it is wrapped!

That's just ridiculous.

I sent back boxes and boxes of beer stuff shipped from the UK and it all arrived fine, well I lost one Erdinger glass but it was more due to my packing.

What if you got a really really tall postman?

Shoulder height?!?!

It has nothing to do with Posties dropping the parcels, it's the height of the conveyors (approx 2m) that carry your parcels within the sorting office & then drop into their steel freight bins. Most often it's not the fall from a well wrapped package that breaks it, but the next heavy/sharp object that falls on top of it. Aussie Post cover themselves by saying "any damage your parcel causes to others you're liable for", but what a load of rot - like they have any chance of policing that one! It's also a joke that they give you fragile stickers, they admit they mean noithing! On top of this, parcels often get trapped within the conveyors, getting pounded & torn by every other package till it's freed.
It's a nightmare for me, packaging goods for shipment by Aussie post, but fortunately so far, the worst damage has been the odd hop pack punctured. If they start breaking more valuable items I'll have to consider insuring every parcel - IMO insurance should be all inclusive already, up to a fixed amount.
If sending bottles to comps (especially interstate) I can highly recommend Greyhound freight - They load all your packages by hand & will even ship the correct way up, where requested. Fast, reliable, safe & cheap...

Cheers Ross

Yeah I knew it wouldn't really be the postman I was just ranting...

The funny thing is my dad quite happily sends pots by post frequently, including to overseas, I guess it is all in the wrapping.

I'd be inclined to say that fragile stickers probably make it a target. When we were in the Czech Republic in 2000 we shipped back a load of glassware given to me by my wife's relatives. The Czech Post Office put the "sklar" (glass) sticker on the package and posted it back home to my neighbour.

Opened the package upon arriving home only to find around half of the glasses smashed.

Don't put fragile stickers on. You could merely be encouraging a smart-arse.

I have sent boxes of bottles around the country with no problems. It doesnt seem to be every time but they definatly arnt reliable enough for me to trust again.

2 meters hey........ that may explain it. if its the first to go in it will have a bad time, but if the bin is full it may have a soft landing.

cheers

Pricks, a broken trophy, that's really annoying. Typical of business today. Do what ever you want, for the most money possible, then stick a contractor in somewhere at service delivery or distribution level to buffer customer complaints. Then set benchmarks for customer satisfaction. Which is actually setting a minimum level for dissatisfaction ie: any complaint re damage etc to that level is ACCEPTABLE!!!! Then crow all over the place that WORLD BEST PRACTICE BENCH MARKS (they love the latest buzzwords like "GOING FORWARD") such as customer satisfaction targets are being met. Just more corporate weasle words!

Off soapbox

Ahh feels better

I'll say!!

The ones at our local, not the major one for our suburb, can barely speak English.
Always look at you in a sideways shifty manner.
And always try and give you a dodgy receipt. Like the ones you get at a $2 shop.
I am always asking for the proper Aus Post receipt.

Losers.

Yep.

I always weigh first at home and check the online postage calculator. Wouldn't put it past some of the PO franchise operators to stick their fingers on the scale. Either that or calibrate their scales to weigh heavy. <_<

Sounds like a good day in Richmond Johnno. No shortage of spring rolls though.

i'd suggest that Aus Post are hiring ex-ansett baggage handlers (or "chuckers" as some call them)
I'd also agree that the fragile sticker is a good excuse for bad apples to target your mail.
I posted a bottle of WA olive oil from HK to AUS (don't ask), all I know is a LOT of mail must have been coated in very expensive olive oil.

It makes you wonder how much damage is caused domestically versus overseas? I won't defend the USPS since they're $hite as well, but I wonder how many dented kegs didn't have dents in that spot when they left the US.....?
I've seen puncture marks on boxes of 4...
