Another Bulk Powells Malt Buy 4 Queenslanders

I have had a few brewers inquire about another Powells bulk grain order.

OK lets do it !

I am not interested in half bags of anything , if you want that, then work it out with someone. I am only doing full bags you divy it up.

I am going at least 5 bags , Andrew Qld wants 10 ,so you better jump in quick.

Oh you know where you have to collect it , rather have those who ordered before or spoke to me about this at Ross's place.


If you do a search "powells bulk buy" or something close you will see the last prices.
I have emailed Grant for the prices plus freight at the present time.

I am guessing I will take the following:

2 X Pils
1 X Ale
1 X Vienna
1 X Munich

Maybe More... will confirm at a later date.

I have heard a rumour that the only people that Powells are supplying malt to are Northern homebrewers and the food industry.
Anyone able to confirm this rumour?

Probably depends on how much you want and the freight costs. Malt has a storage life of about two years (probably more). I am happy (as no doubt powells will be) to send malt anywhere.

Ibuy it from them in melbourne from 1+ bags

Go Powells i cant fault their service and they listen to any problems and even show you around the maltings i (if you cant tell) I support them

the only sell to the north sounds sounds strange, but i am in melbourne and no probs

I however buy from Grain and grape now to save powells the the drama for one bag

Go for it whilst you can. We used to be able to buy single bags from Adelaide maltings years ago for 80c/kg. Then it went up to 500kg, now it is 50,000 kilos minimum buy. They tell me the paper work costs more than the profit.

I an only offering an alternative European malts with a quality control backing.

OK - so tell me how much you all brew, and how you store all the grain - are there any problems with storage?

By my calcs, 25kg is around 5 batches, which is about 2 months brewing for me - what is the turn around time for you guys as far as stored grain?

Any suggestions as to the best "all purpose" grain? My thoughts at this stage are to get a "base malt" that I can use, and then just by small amounts of specialist stuff from the HBS. Is this the general method?

And then I need to buy a crusher! He He - another toy

Guys, I dont want to start a national debate on the features and benefits of different malts, but is it equal or as good as JW Trad Ale. If it is im in for
