Hi guys!

I'm a new member of the forum, my name is Alessandro and I come from Roma.
I've been homebrewing for 6 years and had an experience as a pro brewer in one of the first microbreweries in Italy...
I've got a great passion for beer and all that is related to it...I'll be in Sydney during the whole month of July to see a friend and I'd like to discover the craft beer scene of the city...but I've no idea of where to start...
any advice, recommendation, anyone willing to show me around... ;)

I'd like to try the beers and visit the breweries, talk to fellow homebrewers and brewers alike and if there is any chance I'd like to participate in any homebrewers activity for an exchange on brewing techniques and ideas.....

Well...
If anyone is interested plz let me know!

Cheers!

Alessandro

isb has their meeting on the first wednesday of each month in the city

Hi Alessandro.

Check out The Local Taphouse. I think it's in Darlinghurst, 20-beers on tap. Usually a lot of Australian craft beers.

Union Hotel in Newtown is okay, usually focuses on local craft beers. Red Oak in the city. Harts Pub in the historic Rocks area is worth a visit. I haven't been to The Lord Nelson (The Rocks), but have heard it's pretty good. The Pumphouse in Darling Harbour is also worth a mention.

Btw. Loved Bir & Fud in Roma!

Mates,

thanks for the replies! :beerbang:

Unfortunately I'll get to Sydney after the first Wed of july, so I won't be able to join ISB meeting! what a pity!
Is there any other homebrewing club around Sydney?
I'll try to bring some of my beers, I've got a really nice imperial stout well aged and ready to be enjoyed!
I hope not to have problem at customs....
I'd really like to share them with fellow homebrewers!!

@Spiesy:

I will definitely visit all the places you recommended to taste the first Australian craft beers in my entire life!! Cheers t'ya all!
BTW Bir and Fud is a really nice place, and now they've just renovated it to the version 2.0, more taps, the usual nice food, better place!

@DU99

I'd like to visit Melbourne too, but have no time for it this summer! I'll try next time in Australia !

Which are the local brews I should definitely try????
:drinks:

Cheers to everybody!

Alessandro

I haven't been to these places, because I live about 150km north of Sydney.

I used to catch the train there every day for work (2 hours each eay).
After 10 years of that, and even 7 years since, travelling to Sydney still feels like work. *sigh*

Anyway ...

I have heard good things about these places:
- Redoak - one of the original craft brewers in Australia - http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/redoak-boutique-beer-cafe-sydney?osq=craft+beer
- The Lord Nelson - http://www.au.timeout.com/sydney/bars/venues/256/lord-nelson-brewery-hotel
- The Union Hotel - http://www.au.timeout.com/sydney/bars/venues/1046/union-hotel

There's also 4 Pines over at Manly (take the ferry across the harbour)

If you find yourself in Newcastle,
- The Grain Store is great - http://grainstorenewcastle.com.au/
- The Albion Hotel - http://www.thealbion.com.au/ - I've heard good things about this place, but not been

In terms of local beers to try ~
The Feral Brewing Company make a very nice dark porter - http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9139/54551/
But also their "Hop Hog" is rather good.
I also like Black Duck's Porter.
Coopers' Sparkling Ale is on some "Top 10" beers to try lists.

If you are heading north, feel free to stop in.

cheers,
-kt

hi guys,

finally got to Sydney, fought and won against the jetlag and ready to enjoy all the nice beer venues of the city! ;)

I've already been to the local taphouse, and got impressed with all the good aussie brews they've got on tap...;) nice surprise!

any of you has got beer related plans for the weekend?
I'm goin' to stay around here for a couple of weeks and I would like to get to know some fellow homebrewers to share brewing related tips and tricks and try some of your downunder homebrews as well..or maybe brew a batch together as well!

is there anyone brewing in these days???

so...let me know!

Alessandro

Allesandro, a friend just came back from Sydney and told me he tried the Harts brewpub at the one end of George st close to 4 seasons. Sounded like he enjoyed the brews. His nephew works there.

Dude, Sunday is apparently going to be an awesome day, so do yourself a favour and jump on the ferry and go over to Manly and have a few at The Yardarm, which while it isn't the best beer bar in Sydney, it's certainly the best located. They have a good selection of local micros and 4 Pines is just down the road, and worth a visit.

I live locally and would join you, but I'm already booked in to do a brew that day...

Harts is pretty cool.

Already been to 4 pines Manly, nice place and nice beers!
Harts as well, cool place and nice selection of host beers from the US!

Today I'm gonna have a tour at Young Henrys brewery...

@FatBastard
Have a nice brew day on Sunday! What are you gonna brew? Let's brew something together next week!! ;)

Anyone of you brewing in the next 2 weeks???

Let me know!

Bitter Phew on Oxford Street is well worth a visit, easily one of the best craft beer bars in Sydney and a stones throw from Mr Crackles (if you like pulled pork).

Brewing a Black IPA tomorrow, you'd be welcome to drop by, won't be a too early start! I'll hopefully brew again in 2 weeks time, I'll let you know if you're still around.
