Score a ripper bargain today. Went and saw the father Inlaws uncle who used to make his own wine today. Being Italian he had all the old school ****, old timber press, grape crusher etc. He also had a shitload of these massive demijohn/big arse bottles. Apparently old mate from Melbourne has said he'd buy everything off him for $300 but I managed to grab this for nothing. If I had $300 on me I would've shoved it in his pocket and grabbed the lot.

Now, where's that mead recipe I was chasing....

Good score!

I did the JAO mead but used the wrong oranges and it was way over bitter and even after 4 years never came good. Going to try again as everyone else that brews it loves it.

Did you get the crusher and press too?
Not yet!! I'm working on him. I really hope to get those. Whether I use them or display them I'm unsure yet... But I want to get them nonetheless. You after some manticle??

Ive got 2x demijohns going at the moment with JAO in them. Hopefully be bottling next week some time.

Question:

How the bloody hell do you take the hose out of the bottom of these ******* things??!!

I want to take it off for cleaning/replacing purposes.

Considered it once - bought a grape crusher from a user here and a small stainless press. Sold cheaply when I moved house and was trying to downsize.

If I had the space and was in vic, I'd be chomping at the bit but really just don't want to see the opportunity to go to waste

I've ended up securing them now. Probably pick them up (along with another 4-5 of these demijohns and numerous other stuff) this weekend.

I managed to pick up the rest of the wine making stuff today. Paid $400 for all of this. Waiting until next year to get the first lot of wine going and I'll also be using some of the big demijohns for mead!!

Pretty rapt with deal. I may even end up flogging the press and crusher off if I don't use them or don't think I'll use them.
