has anyone used a downlight transformer to run brown pump etc?

they're looking cheaper than a plug pack as far as i can tell, and way over-rated at around 80-100W so i'd be able to hang most anything else off the 12volt system i wanted...

yay or nay?

Ordinarily I would say yes, just match the output wattage and you should be ok...... This would be for an iron core transformer (older style)

The newer ones (electronic) should work as the load is still an inductive one

whats the downlight worth ?

here's an ebay one ( 2 actually)

hmmm, just looked closer, the transformers i was looking at are 12VAC not DC... so i'll do some more searching...

jaypes - when you say match the wattage, if the transformer is way over the pump and accessories load ie 80 W on the transformer and only 3 or 4 on the load does that matter? i thought it would only be an issue if the load was greater than supply..?
