Are these useful for brewing... or anything?

Old mini kegs from McDonalds, used for soft serve ice cream topping flavours I believe. One has a sticker on the side saying "Chocolate". The pickup tubes sit fairly loose - i.e. the white plastic caps lift easily. So I'm not sure how these things were sealed and pressurised? Volume about 4L...

It came to me in a drug-addled haze...

    Why so much acid malt??

    Show us your brewrig

Here's my tip... don't use a bag... just use a sheet of swiss voile instead! I've done about 30 AG brews since I started out, and they all have been done with the same sheet of voile. I just have a round sheet about 5-6 foot diameter, which the MIL hemmed at the edge for me. No holes, and still...

    Winter = soups & stews

Ox tail and cheek stew is my favourite. Keep it simple: Meats Mushrooms - use a few types (incl fresh shitake if available) Onion, garlic celery, carrot, etc...the usual stuff. Pearl barley too if you like (helps to thicken it up, plus corn flour) Campbells condensed tomato soup tin Couple of...

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

"Death Between The Tanks" Double IPA from The Little Brewing Company (same folks that make Wicked Elf and Mad Abbott ranges), Port Macquarie. 7.8%ABV, 113 IBUs, 330ml. Bottle says hops: Citra, Cascade, Galaxy, Chinook, Simcoe and Motueka. Very good.

    DSGA Clarity

Really? I didn't think that chill haze was in suspension? I must do more reading.

    DSGA Clarity

I've not heard of gelatine stripping hop flavour before, but now that it's mentioned perhaps I do notice a slight reduction (not sure though - it could be in the mind). I do find the overall flavour of the beer to be better now that it's clear, but that could be in the mind too. There seemed...

    Little Ripper Sparkling Lager

Anyone tried this Matilda Bay small batch release? I'm keen to know if this is what I can expect a Vienna Lager to taste like, as I've never tasted one myself. I found it very sweet and malty (like malty honey). Nice at first, but not "sessionable" for me.

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

I picked this up from the brewery cellar door a few weeks ago while on holidays in Port Macquarie. First up I have to say that I found their beers outstanding, when sampling at the cellar door (pilsner, pale ale, wit, porter). Regarding the Xmas Ale, there is a hell of a lot going on with this...

    DSGA Clarity

Here is the difference between gelatined and un-gelatined, after a few days in the fridge. I reckon it's proteins dropping out of suspension, as opposed to yeast. The un-gelatined version IS starting to clear, but at a rate that would take it about a month or more in the fridge to compare in...

    DSGA Clarity

Well, I started an experiment last night by filling two glasses from the keg, and added gelatine to one glass and left the other as the control. Both are being stored in the fridge. Surprise, surprise... the gelatined beer is already coagulating sh*t (proteins??), and clearing the beer. The top...

    DSGA Clarity

I was just reading that Whirlfloc has a shelf life of about two years, and mine is about 5 years since I purchased it, so maybe that is contributing to the haze problem. Note that I only just started back brewing after 2 years break, and didn't have this problem generally before. I'm going to...

    DSGA Clarity

For those people not filtering, how does everyone find the clarity of this beer? This was the first AG I ever did back in 2009, and I can't really recall if the first one was cloudy or not. Now the second one I just did is quite cloudy. Pretty sure it's not yeast haze, because it was crash...

WTB Over the side electric element

Folks, most of the photos I see of these OTS elements seem to be chrome/nickel, but I've just noticed they also come in black. I found a post that says the black ones are better. Thoughts??

Just got a ounce in the mail....

Or a method you could consider would be splitting between late kettle addition and dry hopping. Don't get me wrong, it's not a new method. :D

WTB Over the side electric element

Sorry to hijack the thread, but can someone tell me if these things can be run off the same double GPO that my 40L Birko urn is running off at the same time? To clarify, I have a two-outlet power point in my brew room, and would have the urn running off one and this Over The Side element running...
